Ingredients for 4 servings

For the Mung Dal Kitchadi

  • 150g basmati rice
  • 80g Mung Dal

Liquid ingredients and spices

  • 550 ml of hot water
  • 2 teaspoons of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of whole cane sugar
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 1/2 tbsp Garam Masala
  • fresh coriander for garnish

Spicy sauce (Fodni)

  • 1 - 2 tablespoons of ghee
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 5 black peppercorns
  • 2 cloves
  • 1 TL Hing (Asafödita)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon Haldi (turmeric)

preparation

Wash rice and dal together and drain for 10 minutes

Prepare the spicy sauce and place in a wide saucepan. Slowly roast the rice and dal in it. Then fill with the hot water.

Ginger, garam masala, sugar and salt zugene, once boil and then simmer slowly at the lowest level for about 40 minutes.

Serve garnished with coriander.

Alternative variant: Add zucchini, carrots or other vegetables to the spicy sauce.
