The name "Chai" comes from India and is there for a tea, which is prepared with milk and sugar. The special feature of this tea are the warming spices contained therein, such. Cinnamon, cloves, ginger, cardamom, anise and fennel. They make the chai an uplifting and calming elixir. However, every family in India has its own chai recipe.

Ingredients for 1 liter

For the chai

  • 500 ml of water
  • 500 ml almond milk
  • 3 teaspoons of Assam tea
  • 2-4 tbsp raw cane sugar
  • 1/4 tsp ginger - grated
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 4 cloves
  • 1/4 tsp cardamom
  • 1/4 teaspoon fennel
  • 1/4 tsp anise


Boil the water once. Then add ginger, cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, fennel and anise to the water and simmer for 7 minutes at reduced heat.

Then add the milk, the tea and the sugar, bring to a boil briefly and leave for about 3 minutes.

Drain over a sieve and enjoy.
